Wii U manual connection setup

Before you start

Manual setup is not needed in the majority of cases. Unless you already know that you need to use this option, please try the Search for an Access Point option first.

If you need to perform a manual setup, you’ll need to locate your network’s IP information before you begin the process. If you are not sure how to do this, please contact your internet provider.

Setting up a new connection

To start the setup, select System Settings from the Wii U Menu. Then select the Internet option, and press the A button.

Next, tap Connect to the Internet, then press the Y button or select Connection Types. You’ll then need to choose Manual Connection.

Tap SSID, and enter your Wi-Fi network’s name when prompted. Please note that this is case-sensitive. Tap Security and select your encryption method, followed by your Wi-Fi network’s password.

Once you’ve entered your password, tap the arrow on the right and select IP Address. Tap Auto-Obtain, then enter the following information. Please ensure you add the ‘.’ between each set of numbers.

Tap IP Address, then enter your IP address by adding 10 to the IP address listed in your PC.

Example: If your computer's IP address displays 192.168.2.5, you will enter it into the Wii U as 192.168.2.15.
Tap Subnet Mask, then enter the subnet mask as it appears in your network settings. This is often 255.255.255.000.

Tap Gateway and enter the default gateway as it appears in your network settings.

Once you have completed the steps above, press confirm.

An on-screen message will then ask you to configure your DNS settings. Tap Auto-Obtain, then enter the following information. Please ensure you add the ‘.’ between each set of numbers.

Tap "Primary DNS" and enter 8.8.8.8, then tap "OK" to return to the DNS screen.

Tap "Secondary DNS" and enter 8.8.4.4, then tap "OK" to return to the DNS screen.

Once you have completed the steps above, press confirm.

If you are using a proxy server, you’ll then need to tap the arrow to the right, select Proxy Settings and enter your proxy information. Please note that most networks do not require this information.

When you’ve finished, tap Save or press the B button. Press Save again, then tap Connection test to check your connection is working.

If the connection test is successful, press OK. If your connection test fails, or you receive an error code at any time during your connection test, please contact the Nintendo Customer Support Team.

If you would like this network to be your default network, tap Set when prompted.
