How to configure your Wii U TV connection

Using an HDMI Cable

From the Wii U Menu select System Settings. Then scroll across using the Left Stick to TV and press the A button.

You’ll then need to tap TV Connection Type, followed by HDMI. From there you can manually choose the correct resolution for your TV, or have your Wii U do it automatically by pressing the X button.

You can then confirm by pressing the A button, or change resolution again by pressing Back.

Using a Wii AV Cable

From the Wii U Menu select System Settings. Then scroll across using the Left Stick to TV and press the A button.

You’ll then need to tap TV Connection Type, followed by Non-HDMI. The correct resolution will then be applied to your TV. Tap OK to confirm, or change resolution again by pressing Back.

You’ll then need to select the aspect ratio of your TV. You can find out the correct aspect ratio in your TV’s user guide. Tap OK to confirm your aspect ratio.

Please note that if you select 4:3 ratio some parts of the screen may be cut off.

Using a Wii Component Video Cable

From the Wii U Menu select System Settings. Then scroll across using the Left Stick to TV and press the A button.

You’ll then need to tap TV Connection Type, followed by Non-HDMI. You’ll then need to select the correct resolution for your TV. For more information, please see your TV’s user guide.

If you select 480i or 480p resolution you will then need to select your aspect ratio setting. You can find out the correct aspect ratio in your TV’s user guide. Tap OK to confirm your aspect ratio.

Please note that if you select 4:3 ratio some parts of the screen may be cut off.
