Termination of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection
What is affected?
In addition to online play on software titles, the Wii Speak channel, which requires Wi-Fi Connection to function, will also become unusable.
However, users can still play in offline mode, and access online services such as:
- Internet Channel
- Amazon Instant Video
- Nintendo DS Browser
- Nintendo DSi Browser
- Nintendo DSi Shop
- Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay & Play
- Wii Shop Channel
Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games will not be affected but it will not be possible to use online features of Wii software played in Wii Mode on Wii U, and of Nintendo DS games played on Nintendo 3DS family systems.

Why has this been terminated?
Nintendo has been delivering various network services for Nintendo DS/Nintendo DSi and Wii over the past 8 years and it is only natural that over time with the introduction of new systems the overall number of people enjoying such services on our legacy systems will begin to decline.
We feel that now is the right time to terminate these services in order to focus on the development of an even higher level of service for our customers to include Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, particularly with regards to readying our Wii U and Nintendo 3DS matchmaking services for upcoming games such as Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.
